Review
"Nixy" pivots on a relentless, mid-tempo groove, setting rapid-fire rhythmic cadences against sudden bursts of guttural shouting and soaring clean hooks. Down-tuned riffs lock tightly into sharp, restrained drum work, showcasing the dynamic engine that propels the Berlin trio's fourth full-length.
Throughout the album, dense modern metalcore collides with cinematic electronic textures. The sequencing regularly disrupts crushing heaviness with spacious breathers, alternating thick walls of distorted guitars with synthetic pulses, jittery electronic rhythms on "Supernova", and sparse piano arrangements on "Tidal Waves". While the overarching verse-chorus architecture sticks close to contemporary genre conventions, the taut pacing and polished production keep each transition impactful.
Maria Lessing grounds the material's turbulence, shifting from hushed, vulnerable deliveries to throat-shredding screams with fluid agility. Closer "Cyclone" brings this friction to a peak, layering rumbling bass chords beneath an aggressive vocal breakdown before resolving into a wide, melodic finish.
