Instead of treading water eight albums deep, Sleeping With Sirens embrace a hard-won maturity and emotional clarity on An Ending In Itself. Helmed by producer Will Yip, the record balances their trademark sky-high hooks with heavy, dense riffery and surprising vocal experiments. Rather than succumbing to gloom, the band pivots toward resilience, tackling mental health struggles with an optimistic eye.
While some corners found several tracks late in the record "repetitive" and flat, the critical consensus largely points to a triumphant return to form. Kerrang! hailed the record as "both the culmination of the emotional journey of those last two records and an arrival at a summit they hadn't reached before," praising a "harder edge [that] is flecked with gold". Distorted Sound echoed this sentiment, calling the record a "definite resurgence" that allows the band to sound "fresh in the modern day" while maintaining the vulnerable connection they forged with their fanbase a decade and a half ago.
