Review
In a deathcore landscape increasingly swollen with symphonic bombast and vocal theatrics, Unique Leader remains anchored to unadorned physical trauma. Arriving a decade into Crown Magnetar's lifespan, The Hollowing of Godflesh bypasses operatic posturing to suture breakdown culture directly to the surgical discipline of turn-of-the-century brutal death metal. The addition of guitarist Rob Maramonte sharpens this lineage, lacing hyper-articulate technical runs through what would otherwise be blunt-force impact.
Spanning barely thirty minutes across ten concise tracks, the sequencing favors severe efficiency over indulgence. Following the compact curb-stomp of "Gun Eater," "Desecrate Infinite" detonates with low-slung tremolo picking and relentless double-kick rolls, framing the battery with faint ambient dread rather than melodramatic synths. Dan Tucker’s vocal delivery lurches from cavernous gutturals to desiccated shrieks, pivoting against abrupt time changes on "Godkiller" and the title cut where rapid-fire technical riffing collapses into bone-rattling half-time slams. The uniform intensity risks blurring the midsection, but the record thrives on that single-minded focus, wielding speed and leverage like a blunt instrument.
